The Daguerreian Society
Dedicated to the history, science, and art of the daguerreotype.
Welcome!

I would like to welcome you to the Daguerreian Society's website. Whether you happened across our site and were intrigued by that mysterious word "daguerreotype" or whether you have collected these marvelous miniatures for years, I believe that you will be amply rewarded if you stop to visit. The Daguerreian Society's efforts, through this Website, our Annuals, the bimonthly Newsletters, and the annual Symposium and Tradefair, are attempts to demonstrate our appreciation to our ancestors for leaving us such a wonderful visual legacy. The daguerreotype is a truthful mirror that reveals nineteenth-century life--the charm as well as the adversity--in beautiful detail. I believe it is a form of history that we all can enjoy.

Sincerely,

Mark Johnson
